🧡 Walk for Wenjack
Miigwetch to everyone who joined Oshki-Wenjack for our Walk for Wenjack! We had a great turnout, especially with many of our staff away travelling for forums and conferences.
It was also good to see another organization taking part in the walk and helping keep Chanie Wenjack’s story alive. It’s encouraging to see people and organizations coming together to remember Chanie and reflect on the importance of reconciliation.
In October 1966, 12-year-old Chanie set out to walk home to his family, facing cold temperatures, snow and harsh weather along the way. He died from exposure before reaching home.
As we look back on our walk, we remember Chanie and the many First Nations children affected by residential schools. Their stories must continue to be shared, and their experiences must never be forgotten.
Thank you to everyone who came out and took part. Every step counts. 🧡
