Our accelerated Honours Bachelor of Social Work degree program, run in partnership with Algoma University, enables students who already hold a college diploma to enter the profession more quickly, facilitating positive change. The BSW program focuses on multicultural social work in and with northern, rural, remote, Indigenous, and Franco-Ontarian communities. Our program advocates for social justice and equips students with the intellectual, practical, and professional skills needed to promote the personal and collective well-being of individuals, families, groups, and communities. The blended delivery model allows you to learn online in your home community for most of the program, along with attending one in-person intensive block of learning in Thunder Bay each semester. Graduates are eligible for registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and will be prepared to practice generalist, anti-oppressive social work at the entry-level with diverse populations in a Canadian context.

An Honours Bachelor of Social Work degree prepares you for a career in the social work profession. Graduates could be employed in various settings like private, governmental and Indigenous organizations in areas such as mental health, addictions, education, healthcare, child welfare, family services, counselling, corrections, cultural programming, social planning, community development, and social policy and research. In partnership with Algoma University, Oshki-Wenjack’s blended delivery method allows you to stay in your home community for most of the program while earning an accelerated Honours Bachelor of Social Work degree. This program is designed for students who already hold a college diploma, facilitating a quicker transition into a profession that fosters positive change. You will develop the intellectual, practical, and professional skills necessary to promote the well-being of individuals and communities through online and independent study, attending classes in Thunder Bay twice per semester.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE INFORMATIONMust be a graduate of an accredited college diploma program. Must have an overall average of 70% (G.P.A. of 3.00) in order to receive full transfer credits from their college diploma. Students will be assessed on an individual basis in order to grant full transfer credits.

Complete a separate Algoma University application using the button below. This will also be sent to you from our admissions department. Your offer of admission will come from the university, and you will need to accept the offer. (Do not complete an OUAC application.)
Please keep in mind that books are not included in tuition and need to be purchased separately.
Getting funding for this program?
Contact your First Nation community funding agency to confirm deadlines for funding applications and apply for funding. Your application may only be considered if it is received on time.
Oshki-Wenjack is not responsible for submitting your funding applications, but staff can support you in completing them. You may also wish to apply to OSAP for loans and grants. In addition, Oshki-Wenjack’s Financial Aid Officer (financial-aid@oshki.ca) is available to assist you with OSAP applications and to help you research and apply for scholarships and bursaries.
Students will need to request that their funder send a copy of their sponsorship letter for tuition to Algoma University directly to studentsponsorships@algomau.ca.

Please also ensure that your confirmed sponsorship letter is sent to admissions@oshki.ca. You can register for your classes once the Sponsorship Letter is received.
