Smudging

Smudging is a sacred ceremony in many First Nations cultures. It involves burning the four sisters: sweetgrass, sage, cedar, and tobacco, to purify the body, mind, heart, and spirit of all those entering the ceremonial space. This practice helps participants to fully engage in the events that follow. Smudging rids you of negative forces that can cause harm and protects you.

At Oshki-Wenjack, smudging ceremonies are held by our Elder in residence on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons in the Migizi Cultural Room and online.
