On August 26th, staff, faculty, and students of Oshki-Wenjack will be coming together to celebrate graduates from 2021 and 2022. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, this will be the first time we’re able to gather together for a large in-person ceremony, and the occasion promises to be a momentous one. With over 100 students graduating from 11 different programs, this will be Oshki-Wenjack’s largest graduation ceremony to date. With excitement starting to build among staff and students, it will undeniably be a day filled with special once-in-a-lifetime moments that some have been looking forward to for more than two years.
As the date of the ceremony draws closer, we thought it might be nice to include some reminders and information for graduating students and families who will be celebrating with us on August 26th in Thunder Bay at the DaVinci Centre:
1) Any graduate who is planning on attending must tell us and RSVP to sgrant@oshki.ca no later than July 4th, 2022. This RSVP must include the number of guests who will be attending with the graduate. Each graduate is permitted a total of 3 guests which includes children.
2) Scent-free event. Please do not wear perfume, cologne or other strong smelling products.
3) All graduates and guests must show proof of vaccination in order to enter the event. Individuals must be fully vaccinated which at this time means three doses. Exceptions made for small children under the age of five years or individuals with documentation of a health condition which prevents vaccination. We ask that, to the best of each person’s ability, they do their part to social distance and sanitize hands regularly to prevent the spread of germs to other students, staff, or attendees. Masks are welcome and will be available at the door.
4) Agenda for the Day. When students arrive at the building, there will be a main table inside the doors of the Michelangelo Room at the DaVinci Centre. At this point, guests will show vaccination proof and be permitted to enter the hall and find seats. Graduates will proceed to the small room off to the left where they will be outfitted with their robes, stoles, hats, and pins. Please leave purses and cellphones with your families or in your pocket. Once ready, graduates will assemble in the main lobby where they will be lined up by program in preparation for the processional.
Students are responsible for covering the cost of their own travel and their own accommodations while in Thunder Bay. If anyone would like recommendations for hotels, please do not hesitate to reach out to Sarah at sgrant@oshki.ca.
If you have any additional questions, please contact Sarah at sgrant@oshki.ca or Meagan at mmcleod@oshki.ca and we would be more than happy to assist you. Again, we so look forward to coming together and celebrating this special day with our graduates and their families.
