Mini Med School Camp

As one of the partners, OSHKI participated in the Northern Ontario School of Medicine's Pipeline to Science and Medical Careers Project, a three-year project. A one-week Science Camp for five aboriginal and five francophone youth in grades 8 - 10 was held to encourage aboriginal youth to pursue careers in the health and medical professions.
The program was designed to show how science can be fun and included activities such as making casts, checking for bacterial growth and, a study of plants and their medicinal properties with an aboriginal elder. Two of the first-year aboriginal medical students who participated in the program delivery as excellent role models to the youth Nicole Beauvais from Ginoogaming First Nation
