Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Research Project

In partnership with the Centre for Rural & Northern Health Research and the Northwestern Ontario Breast Screening Program, the perceptions and decisions concerning breast screening by Aboriginal women were explored using a participatory research strategy. The survival rate in the north is less due to the detection of cancer at more advanced stages. The aim is to increase the use of mammography screening in remote First Nation communities by better understanding the personal choices made in their cultural contexts and care setting that limit early breast cancer detection.
