Saving and Backing Up Files

As a student at OSHKI, the following storage solutions are available:

Floppy Diskette

• 1.44 MB capacity
• magnetic storage media
• good for saving small documents
• caveat, newer computers do not support a 3 1/4"  floppy drive (optional)

USB Memory Stick

• 256 MB - 32 GB capacity
• flash memory storage media
• plug-and-go
• good for saving all types of files
• caveat, easy to misplace, use a neck strap

CD-ROM

• 650 - 900 MB capacity
• optical storage media
• good for archiving large files and making audio CDs
• CD-RW drive available in the computer lab
• caveat, susceptible to scratch, use a CD jewel case

DVD-ROM

• 4.7 GB - 9.4 GB capacity
• optical storage media
• good for archiving very large files and making video DVDs
• DVD-RW drive available in the computer lab
• caveat, susceptible to scratch, use a DVD jewel case

SD card

• 1 MB - 4 MB capacity
• non-volatile memory storage media
• widely used in digital cameras and portable devices
• good for transferring digital photos and videos
• SD card reader avaliable in the computer lab
