Program Eligibility

All participants will be tested to determine their functional level and enable them to be placed at an appropriate level.

Participants must be eligible to receive Ontario Special Bursary Plan funding. The following requirements must be met:

* You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
* You must be an Ontario resident;
* You must have a low family income;
* You must not be receiving assistance through OSAP;
* You must be taking post-secondary courses on a full or part-time basis to upgrade your academic skills;
* You must be taking a course that is at least four weeks in length.

Applicant Selection

Applicants must complete the Ontario Special Bursary Plan (OSBP) Application Form, which can be obtained at the Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education & Training campus.

Approved OSBP applicants may receive bursary funds to cover tuition and other compulsory fees and may provide an allowance for books and equipment required for the program.

Program Description

This 300 hour (12 week) training program is a practical upgrading program. Competent numeracy, literacy, and science skills will enable people to enter or re-enter the workforce or continue into Post-Secondary education. The primary focus of this Academic Upgrading program is to upgrade the participants current academic skills and to prepare the participants to successfully write and pass the General Educational Development (GED) exams leading to Grade 12 equivalency recognized by business and industry. The successful trainees who complete the program will gain practical skills, knowledge and a confident attitude.

This program is taught by qualified teachers, using lectures, group work, and discussion. Participants will work at their own pace. Fifteen participants are required to start the program.

The program is delivered on-campus from Monday to Friday, six hours daily, for 12 weeks. The GED exams are arranged for the students to write upon completion of the 12 week program.

Community based delivery will be considered subject to available funding.
