Northern Ontario is one of the most connected regions among First Nations in Canada. The investments made by the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor) to develop and deploy community-based broadband networks and services into the majority of First Nations communities has helped communities to make the transition from digital divide to digital opportunity.

The Kuh-Ke-Nah network (K-Net), a regional infrastructure which is also an emerging national infrastructure for First Nations, aims at providing a foundation for the development and delivery of e-services. Community demand for emerging e-services such as the K-Net Telehealth initiative is transforming the way in which services and products are delivered into and out of communities through the effective use of information and communication technologies (ICTs).

The Internet isn’t just for information anymore. It’s matured into a medium for social participation and interaction, allowing people to build networks and solve problems in new and better ways. At OSHKI, online learning is not about technology. Online learning is about adopting an attitude that believes in people doing things together on the Web.

Communities are becoming increasingly connected. Resources are distributed. Knowledge is distributed. Work is distributed. Are you ready for change?
